For those Flying from the U.S.

Firstly, don’t be phased by the flight time. You’ll soon find having 12-14 hours to watch movies and eat snacks is actually quite an enjoyable experience.

If you have a couple days before to explore Australia, we recommend flying into Sydney or Melbourne.

Sydney to Hobart is a two hour flight, Melbourne to Hobart is only an hour.

Is there an airline we’d suggest? Rather than being guided by airline, we suggest finding an option that is within your budget and offers the shortest possible flight time

In the many times we’ve flown from New York City to Melbourne, we’ve flown through LAX as this seems to be the most direct and easy route.

Time difference and jet lag

There is a sizeable time difference between America and Australia. Because of this you will loose as much as 14 hours on the flight over. Please make sure you factor this into your departure date. Don’t worry though, you’ll get that 14 hours back on the way home. And if you’re into time travel, it’s not uncommon to arrive home in the U.S. before you have even left Australia.

The easiest way to avoid jet lag is by adapting to the new time zone as quickly as possible. As soon as you touch down in Australia live by Australian time. It might be a challenge on the first day but coffee and a good night sleep will have you ready to go on day two.
